PROGRAMS
Reading Rock Star - This is the 9th year of our “read at home” program funded by the PTA! Students in grades 1-5 are encouraged to read and document at least one hour per week of reading at home (45 minutes for Kinders). They are rewarded for their efforts at the end of each month. There will be a surprise school wide celebration in May for those students who reach their monthly reading goals for at least 5 out of the 8 months, September through April. Last year’s celebration was a day of fun at the Gypsum Recreation Center!

Title 1 Reading Program-
Teacher's Role:
-Literacy Coach for students needing extra assistance in reading, writing, and math.
-Literacy Support person for staff with whole group or small lessons allowing teacher to work with smaller groups or individuals.
Extended Kindergarten- Red Sandstone Elementary School was the first ECSD school to operate an all day, every day Kindergarten program! We recognize the importance of providing a high quality early childhood education which is rich in active learning with a consistent daily routine. A full day student attends from 7:45 am until 2:35 pm five days per week. Experiences include appropriate rest periods, snacks, and activities designed to provide an enhanced experience base. The standard curriculum is used for instruction.
Attendance is this program does not necessarily mean that the child is "twice as smart," but provides a structure which helps some students become "more ready" for first grade. A fee is charged because the State of Colorado does not fund full-day kindergarten programs.
Media/Computer Lab- Media and Technology skills are taught to all Kindergartners through Fifth graders each week. The Colorado State Standards for Information Literacy are emphasized in both the library and technology classes. The Media Center and the Computer Labs are also available for classes to use at least an additional hour each week where they can continue to integrate technology and media skills into the curriculum.
